Zinc and vitamin B3: the only two with official claims

Two ingredients of the formula are micronutrients, and they are the only ones for which the European Union, and the United Kingdom after it, authorise health claims. The wording of those claims is fixed by law, and a product may only use them when it brings enough of the nutrient.

Zinc, 11 mg, 110% of the reference intake: zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood and to normal fertility and reproduction. That is well under the 25 mg a day set as the safe upper limit for adults by the European Food Safety Authority.

Mucuna: the dopamine ingredient

In a second study by the same team, in sixty men under stress, mucuna also lowered stress.

Blood flow: citrulline, pine bark and grape skin

For blood vessels to widen, the body needs nitric oxide, which it makes from an amino acid, arginine. Forzonax provides 150 mg of L-citrulline, which the body converts into arginine. In 2008, Edzard Schwedhelm’s team showed in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology that citrulline taken by mouth raises blood arginine more than arginine itself does. In 2011, Luigi Cormio’s team at the University of Foggia, in Italy, published a study in Urology in which oral L-citrulline improved erection hardness in men with mild erectile dysfunction.

Next to it, 100 mg of maritime pine bark extract, the species Stanislavov and Nikolova studied in Bulgaria in 2003 together with arginine, with encouraging results on erectile function, and 15 mg of grape skin extract, rich in polyphenols.

Desire: maca and saffron

Maca, 50 mg of extract. Gustavo Gonzales’ team at Cayetano Heredia University, in Lima, published a trial in Andrologia in 2002: sexual desire rose from the eighth week, with no change in testosterone. Maca acts on drive, not on hormones, which makes it a good partner for the zinc.

Saffron, 5 mg of stigma extract. An Iranian team led by Amir Modabbernia tested it in men whose sex life had been disrupted by an antidepressant, in a study published in 2012 in Psychopharmacology: saffron improved erectile function and satisfaction during sex far more than the placebo.

Energy: L-carnitine, without stimulants
